I would make Kadarius Toney Giants trade again

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said he wouldn't change anything about his decision to trade for wide receiver Kadarius Toney, regardless of how things ended.

Kansas City released the Giants' 2021 first-round pick earlier this week after a sojourn in the Midwest that was marked by injuries and dropped passes more than big-game moments.

Toney played a key role in the Chiefs' win over the Eagles in the 2023 Super Bowl, scoring a touchdown and setting up another touchdown for Kansas City on a 65-yard punt return.

For that reason alone, Veach is pleased the move is happening during the 2022 season.

“I don't think we're looking to win three Super Bowls in a row. [championship] If only I hadn't made that deal,” Veitch said. According to ESPN:“So from that standpoint, we would do it again in a heartbeat.”

Veach said the team was “disappointed” in not being able to develop Toney, who played parts of his first two seasons in New York before joining the Chiefs.

Toney appeared in 20 regular season games for the Chiefs, starting five of them.

The Chiefs' GM spoke highly of Toney despite the team's division.

“We really liked the kid and I know different people have different views on Kadarius, but he's a bright, smart kid in this building,” Veach said. “Looking back, it was just a string of bad luck as far as injuries that were out of our control, like last year when I walked out the first day of training camp and injured my knee. [meniscus]I mean, it was just unfortunate.”

Toney also struggled in New York, but Veach acknowledged the Florida product had some issues and suggested his offseason training habits may have played a role in his lack of success with his second NFL team.

“Sometimes just doing little things in the offseason can turn bad luck into good luck.” [to] “Take care of your body,” Beach said. “I think it's a process that he's working on. It's not because he's not talented. … If he can step up his offseason training a little bit and get in shape, that's great.” [right]I think he's going to play a lot for another team.”

In his first three seasons in the NFL, Toney appeared in 32 games and recorded 82 receptions for 760 yards, three receiving touchdowns and two scores on the ground.
