Tornado warnings were issued in North Dakota on Wednesday, causing trains to stop and strong winds to derail 43 empty cars, BNSF Railway spokesman Kendall Sloan said.

Sloan confirmed that no one was injured and there were no dangerous items in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Additionally, the National Weather Service (NWS) in North Dakota confirmed a tornado touched down near Steele around 8pm on Wednesday, in addition to another that struck near Selfridge at 5:40pm.

The NWS said three potential tornadoes were detected in north-central South Dakota Wednesday night.

Investigative teams are still working in South Dakota to see if there is more damage caused by the tornado. Cleanup efforts began around 1 a.m. Thursday, but it's unclear when they will be finished.
