Homeless man allegedly climbed on top of woman sunbathing at Santa Monica beach and sexually assaulted her

Another Alleged assault Following an incident involving homeless people in Santa Monica, California, some officials are promising stricter regulations.

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Santa Monica State Beach.

“We need to do something to get them off the streets and into treatment and rehabilitation.”

A lifeguard called police to report a woman had been assaulted. The victim said she had been sunbathing when a homeless man got on top of her and began “shoving” her.

Police identified the suspect as 25-year-old Alonzo Dixon and arrested him nearby, and the victim also identified him as the attacker.

Dixon is charged with felony sexual assault in custody.

In a similar incident in May, a homeless man was accused of grabbing a jogger by her ponytail and dragging her to a public restroom on Santa Monica Beach. Passersby rescued the woman, who told police she thought the man was trying to sexually assault her.

Some Santa Monica city council members want to impose tougher restrictions on people who sleep on the streets, but at least one is opposed to the measure.

“I don't support it,” Caroline Trocis told KTLA-TV. “I think a better way is to provide support services and shelter for people.”

Mayor Phil Bullock said, Supported countermeasure.

“This isn't draconian,” Block said, “it's not burdensome, but if we offer help four, five, six times and someone still isn't off the streets, I think we need to do something to get them off the streets and into treatment and rehabilitation.”

City council members were scheduled to vote on the proposed ordinance on Wednesday but postponed it.
