Demi Moore was 40 when she did a bikini scene in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.
“I did 'Charlie's Angels' and there was a lot of buzz about my bikini scene and a lot of discussion about the way I looked,” the Hollywood beauty told Interview magazine, speaking with actress Michelle Yeoh about how entering her 40s has affected her career.
“And it just seemed like I didn't belong there. It wasn't like I didn't belong, it was more like, 'I'm not 20, I'm not 30,' but I wasn't the mom they thought I was.'” Moore was already a mother of three at the time.
She added that her 40s was a time when she felt like she was “not dead, but flatlined” in the industry.

The 61-year-old was doing interviews for her new horror film, “The Substance,” in which she plays a 50-year-old celebrity who finds a way to temporarily become younger, but with nasty side effects.
Earlier in the interview, Moore called the film “a unique way to explore issues of aging, societal conditioning, and the pressures of the male-idealized image of womanhood that we as women have come to accept.”

“The essence of this piece is what we do to ourselves, and I loved that it was this physical representation of the violence of what we do with our thoughts, how we attack ourselves and distort things. What we do to ourselves is a choice, and knowing that we can make a different choice is very empowering.”

She was also, at one time, the highest-paid actress in Hollywood.
In 2019, she told Diane Sawyer about the mentality of having “nothing to lose” after she dropped out of high school and left home as a teenager: She'd been raped, witnessed her mother attempt suicide multiple times, and began trying to make it in Hollywood.

“I have nothing, so why not?” she told Sawyer of her thoughts at the time.
After divorcing Hollywood hunk Bruce Willis in 2000, Moore married actor Ashton Kutcher, a relationship that received much media coverage, mainly because he was 15 years her junior.
During their decade-long marriage, Moore became synonymous with the term “cougar.”

Moore recently joked to Kelly Ripa on the “Let's Talk Off Camera” podcast that being a “sex symbol” is the “best role” because it's “very different from who I am.”

“I realized that I really love keeping busy. You said earlier, 'Oh, my career was always going well,' and I assure you that's not true. I felt like when I turned 40, they didn't know what to do with me,” she said. “Now I feel like women in their 40s – it's a shift in perception, but I was part of a transitional cohort. They were a little bit like, 'There's nothing for you.'”

Ripa said she felt Moore had helped “change the perception” that women in their 40s can be sexy.
“It was like 'Charlie's Angels,' and she came out of the water in a bikini and she was like, 'Remember me? Here I am,'” Ripa pointed out.

Moore said she was told at the time that she was “too young” to play certain roles, but because she wasn't 30, she was too old for many of them.

“And I was literally told, 'We don't really know what to do with you.' It's interesting to see the changes we've gone through,” Moore said.
She added that streaming services are realizing “there's a huge demographic that wants to serve them,” and that's powerful women, “and in some cases, women in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and that's really exciting.”
Moore has been busy lately. In addition to The Substance, he just wrapped the limited series Feud: Capote vs. the Swans, will appear in Nicolas Cage's 2022 film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and is set to star in Taylor Sheridan's upcoming drama The Landman.
