Wedding of Johnny Gaudreau’s sister canceled after brothers’ tragic deaths: report

Katie Gaudreau's sister NHL veteran Johnny Gaudreau Her husband, actor Matthew Gaudreau, reportedly canceled their wedding, which was scheduled for Friday in Philadelphia, following his brother's tragic death.

Katie and her fiancé, Devin Joyce, were preparing to marry on Friday at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Gloucester City, New Jersey, before celebrating their union with a reception in Philadelphia.

However, a source confirmed to Page Six that the wedding has been canceled after the Gaudreau brothers tragically died Thursday night after being hit by a suspected drunk driver while riding their bikes.

The family did not confirm the news but released a statement thanking everyone for their support.

“Last night we lost two husbands, two fathers, two sons, two brothers, two sons and brothers-in-law, two nephews, two cousins, two family members, two teammates and two friends. Two truly amazing people,” the statement said.

According to Katie and Devin's wedding website, the Gaudreau brothers and their wives were scheduled to attend as bridesmaids.

Gaudreau family issues heartbreaking statement after DUI suspect indicted in brother's death

New Jersey State Police say Shawn Higgins, 43, was arrested and charged with hitting the Gaudreau brothers from behind while attempting to pass two other vehicles. Higgins is suspected of having been drinking.

Police said Higgins failed a field sobriety test and admitted to responding officers that he had drunk five or six beers before the crash, and that he had been drinking while driving, police added.

Higgins appeared before a judge online on Friday. Prosecutors asked for him to be detained, and the judge agreed, setting a detention hearing for Thursday.

Higgins asked, “So you're here until Thursday?” The judge explained that the allegations required him to keep Higgins in custody for a minimum of 72 hours. Because of the holiday weekend, the earliest Higgins could appear in court was Thursday, September 5.

Johnny Gaudreau was in the third year of a seven-year contract. Columbus Blue Jackets, He had returned to his hometown of New Jersey for his sister's wedding, leaving behind his wife, Meredith, and their two children, Noah, 2, and Johnny, 6 months.
