Walz on abortion, religious freedom is ‘on par with China and North Korea,’ says parental rights advocate

MINNEAPOLIS — Parental rights advocates in Minneapolis are warning that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz's policies on issues like abortion and gender ideology are far from “moderate,” saying that under his watch, Minnesota has become one of the most progressive states in the country.

“I was pretty surprised that he was selected because he's a moderate and shares Minnesota values,” Rene Carlson of True North Legal, legal counsel for the Minnesota Family Council, told Fox News Digital.

“Many Minnesotans are surprised by the policies that have been passed in Minnesota, especially policies that impact family thriving. They are disappointed and simply not aligned with his progressive ideology.”

Carlson told Fox News Digital that one of the main areas where Walz's leadership has let the community down is the issue of abortion.

Minnesota lawmakers warn of Gov. Walz's 'radical policies' ahead of election: 'Very bad'

Rene Carlson of True North Legal spoke to Fox News Digital about Minnesota Governor Tim Walz's career.

“From our perspective at True North Legal, we have been extremely disappointed with the administration's governance when it comes to protecting life and protecting not just unborn children but women,” Carlson said. “He has some of the most extreme policies not only in the United States but in the world, on par with China and North Korea.”

“The reality is that the majority of Minnesotans did not agree with his policy of allowing abortion without restrictions up until birth,” she continued. “This applies to everyone, including minors. There is also repeal that works with the fundamental rights of nearly every protective guardrail for women and girls seeking abortions. This means the elimination of hospital-only laws, doctor-only laws, 24-hour waiting periods, a woman's right to know that simply provides women with information about what will happen to their body if they have an abortion.”

Carlson explained that Minnesota law had been changed to remove protections for babies born alive after an abortion, and that babies now only received “comfort care” rather than “life-saving care.”

“We're talking about an administration that thinks it's okay to let fetuses that survive abortions die on a cold metal table,” Carlson said. “When it comes to abortion, cows and reptiles in Minnesota now have more rights than women and fetuses in Minnesota.”

When it comes to religious freedom under Gov. Walz, Carlson says he misses the point.

“It's very disappointing and it's not a moderate position at all,” she said. “It's a brazen attack on our fundamental freedoms and First Amendment rights.”

“The Minnesota Human Rights Act, like many other states, has non-discrimination provisions based on certain categories, one of which is gender identity, that sometimes conflict with the sincere religious beliefs of religious people in Minnesota, which is about half the population,” Carlson said. “Well, a special exception was made in the '90s when sexual orientation was added as a protected category to the Minnesota Human Rights Act. So, that was a great demonstration of pluralism. If that law was going to be added, it had to at least protect religious organizations within that exception. Well, as I said, that exception was removed last year.”

“These are brazen policies. They are not moderate policies,” she added.

Waltz said, Nicknamed by some Republicans A woman known locally as “Tampon Tim” for allowing menstrual products in some boys' school bathrooms also received a failing grade from Carlson on gender ideology.

“In terms of gender ideology, Minnesota has emerged as one of the most progressive states when it comes to gender policy, even though it's in the Midwest, which is very surprising,” she said. “Essentially, their policies reflect a sentiment that they want gender ideology to be the preferred category.”

Carlson told Fox News Digital that the Walz administration “has not proven to be a moderate administration at all” and that it has “passed some of the most extreme progressive policies.”

“Their state agencies are implementing some of the most radical progressive legislation, and that's unfortunate,” she said.

“This is a hardship for many Minnesotans and if that's happening in Minnesota, imagine what it would do to the fabric of our country. We fight for freedom, I mean, even something as simple as religious freedom is at stake in Minnesota. If that's happening in Minnesota, imagine what it would do across the country. I think people need to take a closer look at Minnesota and see what policies have been passed. And again, from my firsthand experience, this is not a moderate administration. These are some of the most progressive and extreme policies I've seen across the country.”

Fox News Digital reached out to the Harris-Waltz campaign for comment but did not receive a response.
