Gov. Jared Polis, a Colorado Democrat, said Sunday on ABC's “This Week” that Democrats, including Vice President Kamala Harris, “have always been in favor of building a barrier or a wall in certain places on the border.”
Host John Karl said, “Another issue that wasn't addressed in the CNN interview is that she appears to support a border wall, at least in some ways. I mean, we've seen her use border wall imagery in her ads, she's said she'll sign a Senate bill that would provide $650 million for the construction of a border wall. She's previously called the border wall a medieval vanity project and a foolish use of money that she swore to block. So what's changed?”
“This is an issue that is very misleading when it's brought into the public debate. Democrats in general, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden and, you know, Barack Obama, have always been in favor of building a barrier or a wall in certain places on the border as part of a comprehensive border strategy,” Polis said.
“Hold on a second,” Kahl said. “She called the border wall a medieval vanity project, a foolish waste of money, and said she would block funding for it. So she never said she supported it.”
Polis said, “That's right. Donald Trump's proposed border wall would be a huge waste of money and a waste of taxpayer money. Trump has talked about virtually walling the entire border, but he has not effectively used different types of barriers, including satellite imagery, ground intelligence, securing and sealing the border, in a cost-effective manner. What Kamala Harris supports is making sure we have the most cost-effective way possible to stop the illicit flow of people, guns and drugs across our southern border. Of course, Donald Trump's border wall would not work and would be a waste of taxpayer money. Of course, a barrier or a wall is part of a comprehensive strategy that Kamala Harris will implement to secure our southern border.”
