Ten thousand hotel workers in several cities across the US are reportedly on strike, demanding higher wages and an end to job cuts.
The strikes are taking place over Labor Day weekend and follow contract negotiations with Marriott International, Hilton and Hyatt. Reuters Reported on Sunday, citing the Unite Here trade union.

Unite Here, which represents hotel, casino and airport workers in the U.S. and Canada, said thousands of workers are striking at 25 hotels in several major travel destinations, including San Francisco and San Diego in California, Hawaii's capital Honolulu, Boston, Seattle and Greenwich, Connecticut, and that workers in other cities are poised to join the strike as the Labor Day holiday weekend continues.
The strike comes amid a 9% increase in domestic travel over Labor Day weekend compared to last year, according to AAA booking data.

Hyatt's Americas labor relations chief Michael D'Angelo said his company's hotels have contingency plans in place to handle a strike. The Associated Press Reported Sunday.
“We are disappointed that UNITE HERE has chosen to strike when Hyatt remains willing to negotiate,” he said.
According to an Associated Press article, roughly 1.9 million people work in the US hotel industry, which is about 196,000 fewer than at the beginning of 2019.
A group of workers began picketing outside the hotel at 4 a.m., WCVB reported. Reported About 900 employees were laid off, including room attendants, front desk clerks, doormen, cooks, dishwashers and banquet staff.
“What they want most is a wage increase,” the media reporter said.
