USC receiver’s leaping one-handed grab is early leader for catch of the year

At the end of the first week of college football, there will be a leader in the clubhouse for catch of the year, and there may not be a player who surpasses that leader.

In Sunday night's game between No. 23 USC and No. 13 LSU, the offense was sluggish in the first quarter, but a Trojan receiver made an incredible catch that brought lightning to Las Vegas.

Miller Moss, heir to Caleb Williams' throne, stepped into the pocket to throw the ball in double coverage, but he naturally put his trust in Kyron Hudson.

Hudson leapt up on one foot and reached his right hand back to make an unreal catch.

Two plays later, the Trojans found the end zone and scored.

Hudson saw limited playing time over his first three years with the Trojans, appearing in just one game in 2021 before totaling 32 catches for 341 yards over the next two seasons.

But if he continues to play like this, he'll certainly get more playing time.

USC capped off the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run by Woody Marks.

USC's No. 23 ranking was its lowest in the preseason poll since it began the 2019 season ranked No. 24. It was ranked No. 6 last year but ultimately fell out of the top 25.

The LSU Tigers also have a new quarterback replacing the Heisman Trophy winner, with Garrett Nussmeyer now playing center and replacing current Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, who was the No. 2 pick behind Williams in the NFL Draft.
