Mother of 49ers Ricky Pearsall Breaks Silence After Son’s Shooting in San Francisco

The mother of San Francisco 49ers rookie player Ricky Pearsall said God was watching over her son as he survived a gunshot wound to the chest during an attempted robbery in San Francisco on Saturday.

On Saturday, the team confirmed that a shooting had occurred and said Pearsall, 23, was in stable condition.

“He sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and is in critical but stable condition,” the team wrote on X. “We ask that you respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ricky and the entire Pearsall family.”

Now the player's mother, Erin, is speaking out about the attack on her son.

“An update on my son,” Erin wrote in a Facebook post.

“First of all I want to thank God for protecting my son. He is so lucky God protected him,” Erin wrote.

“He was shot in the chest and the bullet exited through his back. Thank God the bullet missed his vital organs. He is fine now. Life is truly precious, my friends,” she continued.

“Love each other. My son was saved today by God's grace. Please pray for my baby.”

Police said a 17-year-old boy who was attempting to rob a player accidentally shot himself when Pearsall resisted. The attacker sustained injuries to his arm during the attack. When officers arrived on scene, the attacker was taken into custody.

Evan Cernovsky, director of strategic communications for the San Francisco Police Department, called the shooting “tragic” and “unacceptable.”
