Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker said in an interview Monday that Vice President Kamala Harris needs to be careful going into a debate with former President Trump.

“I don't think we should underestimate Donald Trump,” Pritzker told CNN's Sara Sydnor. “He's won a couple of debates. And certainly people will say that he won a debate with President Biden a few months ago.”

Trump and Harris are scheduled to debate on September 10th, hosted by ABC News.

“You saw him win the debate against Hillary Clinton in his first campaign,” Pritzker said of Trump, “and you shouldn't underestimate him.”

Pritzker said Harris is a “great person with great skills and great communication skills” but that alone may not be enough to beat Trump.

“No one should think that Kamala Harris is more capable of winning a debate than Donald Trump,” Pritzker said. “They will emerge as formidable opponents with very different perspectives.”

The Harris campaign still refuses to sign onto the already agreed-upon rules for the next debate, which would have mirrored the guidelines originally outlined in the debate. CNN debate A meeting between former President Trump and President Biden in June.

“The memo sent by ABC was a proposed set of rules that both campaigns had to sign to show their agreement. We did not sign it because both candidates made it clear they wanted hot mics.
