NBC News issues weak correction after anchor falsely claims Harris was at dignified transfer

NBC News' “Meet the Press” posted a correction about X after host Kristen Welker falsely claimed that Vice President Kamala Harris was present at a dignified transfer ceremony for 13 service members killed in the Abbey Gate bombing during the fall of Afghanistan.

The mistake came after Welker asked Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) whether it was appropriate for former President Donald Trump to “create campaign content in a military cemetery.”

“He's not taking campaign photos there. Gold Star families who have lost children because of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' incompetence invited him to the cemetery and asked him to take photos,” Cotton responded.

“You know who that family invited? Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Where were they? Joe Biden was sitting on a beach. Kamala Harris was sitting in a mansion in Washington, D.C. She was four miles away. She could have gone to the cemetery and honored the sacrifice of those young men and women, and she didn't,” Cotton continued.

“But they met with them during their dignified transfer. They were with them during their dignified transfer,” Welcker interjected.

“Biden was there, but Harris was not.”

After being heavily criticized on social media, the show's X account downplayed the error, saying Welker had “insinuated” that Harris had been at Dover Air Force Base, even though Welker clearly stated that Harris had been at the ceremony.

“This morning's broadcast erroneously reported that both President Biden and Vice President Harris attended the dignified transfer of 13 U.S. troops killed during the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Mr. Biden was in attendance, but Ms. Harris was not,” the show said.

The mainstream media and Democrats have been busy trying to create a scandal out of President Trump's visit to Arlington National Cemetery to honor 13 fallen service members, even though their families had asked him to attend. The families were particularly unhappy that Harris recently attacked Trump's visit because she ignored their requests to meet with them.

“Vice President Harris is responsible for the deaths of our sons and daughters. … We have requested multiple meetings to discuss the losses of our loved ones, but VP Harris has repeatedly ignored us and shown a complete lack of empathy and accountability. Her refusal to face the consequences of her administration's decisions is a profound betrayal of us as Gold Star families,” the statement read.
