Previously Deported Migrant Stabbed Teen Girl at Indiana Baseball Game

A formerly deported Honduran national has been arrested and charged with the unprovoked stabbing of a teenage girl at a baseball game in Lowell, Indiana.

Police said Dimas Gabriel Yanez, 26, an illegal immigrant from Honduras, Stabbed WBBM-TV Chicago reported that the man attacked a 14-year-old girl and then tried to attack her mother when she tried to protect her.

Yanez fled the scene of the attack on Saturday and was captured the next day after an “intense maneuver.” The Lake County Sheriff's Office said the suspect had cut his hair to change his appearance. Reported on Sunday via Facebook.

Officers found him hiding in a cornfield in the southern part of the county and pursued him.

“Prior to his arrest, the suspect appeared to be attempting to cut his hair in an attempt to alter his appearance,” Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. wrote in a Facebook post.

“Investigators have determined that Yañez was deported to Honduras in 2018 and may have engaged in criminal activity throughout the United States since his illegal return,” the department added.

The Facebook post did not provide further details about any previous charges Yañez has faced.

“The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has been notified of his arrest,” the department added in the post.

The boy who was allegedly assaulted, Yanez, was treated and released from a local hospital on Saturday.
