Biden approval rating jumps 13 points while Harris leads Trump: poll

President Biden's approval rating has increased by 13 points in recent months, and Vice President Harris widened her lead over former President Trump in the November election.

Forty-eight percent of voters approve of Biden's job performance and 49% disapprove, showing a 13-point increase in Biden's approval rating since the last time the USA Today/Suffolk poll asked the question in March.

“President Biden has led us safely out of a once-in-a-century pandemic, restored an economy that was languishing when he took office to the strongest in the world, and strengthened alliances that were strained under Trump,” White House spokesman Ben LaBolt told Fox News Digital. “More and more Americans recognize that he has led us safely out of a series of crises and is sowing the seeds for a prosperous future.”

The poll, conducted in full after the Democratic National Convention, is a stark difference from other polls on the president's job performance, with a Real Clear Politics polling average showing Biden trailing by 12.3 points in multiple polls.

Aside from the most recent USA Today/Suffolk poll, Biden's best showing was an NPR/PBS/Marist poll conducted Aug. 1-4 in which 51% of respondents said they disapproved of his performance, compared with 47% who approved, a four-point difference. Meanwhile, a Fox News poll conducted Aug. 9-12 had Biden ahead by 18 points, with his approval rating at 59% to 41%.

The latest poll also differs from a previous USA Today/Suffolk poll conducted March 3-8, which found 55% of respondents disapproved of Biden's job performance compared to 41% who disapproved, a 14-point difference in approval ratings of the president.

Meanwhile, polls also show Harris outperforming Trump nationally, holding a 48% to 43% lead over the former president as the debate approaches. Harris' lead is a seven-point increase from a March poll that showed Trump leading Biden 40% to 38%.

Helping Harris close the gap was voter sentiment on immigration, where she outscored Trump by 3 points, 50% to 47%. But the numbers represent dramatic gains for Democrats since March, when Trump trailed Biden by 13 points on the issue.

The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital before publication deadline.

Reached by Fox News Digital for comment, Caroline Leavitt, national spokeswoman for the Trump campaign, argued that Trump is “continuing his historic campaign to Make America Great Again and grow support among disaffected Democrats and Independents.”

“Voters trust President Trump on all the issues that matter most to them — crime, the economy, immigration — because they know he delivered the most secure borders in history, record low inflation, and safe neighborhoods,” Leavitt added. “Meanwhile, Kamala Harris has destroyed our economy, allowed millions of violent illegal immigrants into the country, and raised bail for rioters who tried to burn down our country. While Kamala Harris continues to avoid places without a teleprompter, President Trump and our campaign will continue to travel the country prosecuting cases against her.”

The USA Today/Suffolk poll was conducted among 1,000 voters between Aug. 25 and Aug. 28 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
