Suspect in Custody After Shooting Reported at Georgia High School

A suspect has been detained following a reported shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. CNN.

There were reports of injuries, but the extent of the injuries is unclear.

Barrow County Sheriff's Office said USA Today The school was placed on lockdown after the shooting was reported.

A lockdown announcement was sent to parents shortly before 11 a.m. reading: “Apalachee High School is currently on heavy lockdown following reports of a shooting. Police are on the scene. Please do not come to school at this time as officers are working to secure the area.”

WSB attention “At least one person has been transferred to a medical helicopter which has landed at the scene and multiple ambulances are at the scene.”

Republican Governor Brian Kemp released a statement about the incident, saying, “I am mobilizing every resource of our state to respond to what happened at Apalachee High School and I ask all Georgians to join my family in praying for the safety of students in classrooms in Barrow County and across the state.”

The school was closed at 11:30 a.m. and students returned to their families.
