The Trump campaign said Wednesday that it raised $130 million in August, most of it from donations of less than $200.
The Trump campaign said its August fundraising totals left it with $295 million in cash on hand heading into the final two months of the general election campaign as it tries to keep up with Vice President Harris' overwhelming fundraising.
The Trump campaign said 98% of donations it received in August were less than $200, with the average amount being $56.
“A united Republican Party and a growing number of cross-party independents and disaffected Democrats give the Trump-Vance team momentum as the race approaches its final stages,” Brian Hughes, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, said in a statement.
“August's fundraising numbers reflect that movement, and bringing President Trump's America First movement back to the White House could reverse Harris and Biden's abject failure,” Hughes added.
The Trump campaign has seen a surge in fundraising in recent months, at one point surpassing that of President Biden's campaign, but Biden's decision to drop out of the race and install Harris as his top candidate has caused the Democrats' fundraising to accelerate sharply.
Jen O'Malley Dillon, Harris' campaign chair, said in a weekend memo that Vice President Harris has raised more than $540 million since entering the race on July 21, a historic amount for a candidate over that time period.
The Harris campaign announced Tuesday that it will raise a lot of money to secure a majority of House seats and send about $25 million to Democratic committees to invest in lower-tier candidates.
