47-year-old man fatally shot in head in NYC subway station: police

A 47-year-old man was shot and killed at a Brooklyn subway station Wednesday night, police said.

Police and officials said the victim was on the mezzanine level of the Rockaway Avenue Station on the C Line, near a MetroCard vending machine, when he was shot in the head just after 11 p.m.

Police said the man was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been made.

Authorities were reviewing video surveillance late Wednesday in an attempt to identify the suspect.

The deadly shooting was the latest in a string of subway violence to hit New York.

Police say a suspect armed with a machete slashed a 31-year-old man on the Bronx subway last Saturday, wounding him in the head and arm.

Also early Tuesday morning, a stranger attacked a 16-year-old boy on another Bronx subway train after challenging him to a fight.

Police sources said the boy was slashed in the back of the head with a large blade.
