Sen. J.D. Vance's favorability rating is lagging behind Gov. Tim Walz's as Election Day approaches, according to a new USA Today/Suffolk University poll.
A survey conducted after the Democratic National Convention in Chicago found that 36% of voters had a favorable view of Vance, while 48% supported Waltz. Independents' views of former President Trump's running mate were similar: 47% said they had an unfavorable view of Vance, but just 36% had an unfavorable view of Waltz, who is running alongside Vice President Kamala Harris.
USA Today and Suffolk University conducted the survey of 1,000 voters by cellphone and landline from Aug. 25 to 28. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
The poll comes after Vance adopted an aggressive media strategy, granting interviews to outlets seen as hostile to the Trump campaign, while Waltz and Harris have faced criticism for being relatively less transparent with the media.
Kamala Harris has not held a formal press conference since emerging as the Democratic candidate.

Harris and Walz did a pre-recorded interview with CNN's Dana Bash last week, but the pair have steered clear of more rigorous press conferences.
Combined, Trump and Vance have given at least 38 interviews since Harris announced Waltz as her running mate.
