Walz: Trump speeches like next 'Mad Max' screenplay

Harris' running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (Democrat), recently suggested former President Trump's comments were pessimistic and likened them to the dystopian film “Mad Max.”

“There is a deliberate effort by some to convince us that our political system is broken and that the situation is bleak,” Walz, who was believed to be in his campaign office, said.

“My God, every time I hear Donald Trump speak, it's like the next Mad Max script or something,” the governor said. In a video posted on Wednesday “They are against America,” he posted on social media platform X.

“They don't believe in the exceptionalists of this country, they don't believe in the people who built this country. They just want to complain about them,” he added.

Waltz has been well-received by Democrats as a running mate despite the rapid turnover of the Democratic field following President Biden's decision to drop out of the race. Waltz, the Minnesota governor, has been at the forefront of the Harris campaign's efforts to portray Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), as “crazy people,” a move that has spread to other members of the party.

“I think it's fair to say to all of you in this room that this election depends in large part on this county, on this field office and the people that we send out,” Walz added in the video.

Trump has pushed back against the “wacko” label, insisting last month that he and Vance are “very normal people.”

“This weirdo. He said we're weird. He said J.D. and I are weird. I think we're very normal people. Like you,” Trump said during a campaign stop in York, Pa. “He's a weirdo. Have you ever seen him get on stage and go crazy?”

Republican nominee Trump has consistently fired insults back at Harris and Walz, calling the North Star State governor a “nutcase” and claiming his Democratic rival is a “nutcase. ” Trump has also maintained he has the “right” to personally attack the vice president, despite pressure from members of his own party to tone down the insults and focus more on policy.

The Hill/Decision Desk average of national polls shows Harris leading Trump by four points, 49.4 percent to 45.4 percent.

The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign.
