X blocks users from searching name of Apalachee High School gunman

Elon Musk's social media platform X on Thursday blocked search results for the name of the teen suspected in the Georgia school shooting.

Colt Gray, 14, was arrested after two students and two teachers were killed at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia on Wednesday.

His name has been published in multiple media outlets, including The Washington Post, but searching for “Colt Gray” on X brought up an error message on Thursday.

Users were directed to a nearly blank page with the message, “Something went wrong. Please refresh.”

A pop-up at the bottom of the screen said, “We ran into a problem, but don't worry. It's not your fault.”

The Washington Post has reached out to Musk and X for comment.

Meanwhile, a search for “Colt Gray” on Threads, an X rival owned by Mark Zuckerberg's Meta, turned up several results.

Authorities identified Gray as the suspect who stood up during class, pulled out a gun and then opened fire on classmates and teachers.

Investigators said two school security guards encountered the shooter within minutes of reports of gunfire.

Gray, who allegedly used an assault rifle, turned himself in after the shooting and was taken into custody.

Authorities have indicated he will be tried as an adult.

Officials said Gray was interviewed by police more than a year ago in connection with an investigation into online posts threatening to carry out school shootings.

Authorities interviewed Gray but said they did not have enough evidence to make an arrest.

Classes were canceled at Apalachee High School on Thursday, but some people paid their respects by placing flowers around the flagpole or kneeling on the grass and bowing their heads.
