‘Rust’ Armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed Pleads Guilty To Unrelated Gun Charge

Hannah Gutierrez Reed reportedly agreed to plead guilty to carrying a gun into a bar in Santa Fe, New Mexico, three weeks before Halina Hutchins was killed.

Prosecutors accused the “Last” gun dealer of bringing a gun into the Matador Bar on October 1, 2021. VarietyShe will reportedly plead guilty to the felony charges and will serve 18 months of probation. Gutierrez-Reed's defense has argued that the charges were intended to get her to plead guilty to manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting on the set of “Lust,” the outlet reported. They also argued that the charges were intended to get her to plead guilty to bringing live ammunition onto a film set, charges she continues to deny.

Charges related to bringing a gun into a bar could have resulted in an additional 18 months in prison, but were commuted to probation at his Arizona home, Variety reported.

The defense reportedly argued that the charges were outside the scope of the “Last” shooting case and therefore could not be pursued by special prosecutor Kari Morrissey. The defense reportedly objected, arguing that the charges were brought in retaliation for Gutierrez-Reed's failure to accept a plea deal in the manslaughter case. The defense also argued that the charges stemmed from an overly broad search of the gunman's cell phone, according to Variety.

Gutierrez Reed's lawyers have reportedly requested a hearing later in September. Another hearing on the manslaughter count is scheduled for Sept. 26, according to the outlet.

Gutierrez Reed, 27, is already serving an 18-month prison sentence for manslaughter in the death of cinematographer Halina Hutchins. Variety noted that the new plea deal is unrelated to and will not affect Hutchins' case.

Gutierrez Reed was reportedly convicted of loading a live gun into Alec Baldwin's hand, causing the actor to fire and kill Hutchins. (Related: Report: Prosecutors allege 'Last' arms maker was hungover at time of fatal shooting)

Baldwin's manslaughter case was dismissed in July after a judge ruled that prosecutors had withheld evidence from the actor's lawyers.

According to Variety , Gutierrez Reed's lawyers also want the manslaughter conviction thrown out for similar reasons.
