President Biden is scheduled to visit the battleground state of Wisconsin on Thursday and deliver a speech announcing billions of dollars in federal investments in climate-friendly energy in rural America.
During his visit in Westby, Wisconsin, President Biden is expected to announce $7.3 billion in funding for rural electric cooperatives across the country to build or buy climate-friendly electricity.
The announcement comes as the president visits several battleground states this week that are key to Vice President Harris' candidacy, along with Michigan and Pennsylvania. Harris rose to the top of the list of candidates in late July after Biden announced his endorsement for her to take on former President Trump in November.
Biden narrowly won Wisconsin in the last election, and Thursday's announcement will be made in Vernon County, which Trump won by about 5 percentage points in the 2020 election.
The trip is an official trip organized by the White House, but it gives Biden an opportunity to tout some of the accomplishments of his administration that Democrats hope to leverage in Harris' campaign. The vice president currently leads Trump in the Badger State by 3.4 points, 49.5 percent to 46.1 percent, according to The Hill/Decision Desk Consolidated Polling Index.
Thursday's event is scheduled to begin at 4 pm EDT.
