The FBI searched the home of a senior member of New York City Mayor Eric Adams' administration and seized his cell phone. According to to numerous sources of information.
“Have you ever seen so much chocolate leading the way in New York City?”
The purpose of the investigation remained unclear.
Law enforcement sources said federal agents searched the homes of Deputy Mayor Phil Banks and Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright.
The cell phone of another aide, Timothy Pearson, was also reportedly confiscated.
Former MTA employee and current lobbyist Terrence Banks (brother of Phil Banks) is also reportedly a target of the investigation.
Finally, the FBI also reportedly searched the home of New York Police Commissioner Edward Cabán, an ally of Adams.
“Police are aware that the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York is conducting an investigation involving military personnel,” an NYPD spokesperson said in a statement. “Police are fully cooperating with that investigation.”
The investigation appears to be unrelated to a separate federal investigation into Adams' Turkey dealings, to which he received a subpoena in August as part of that investigation.
In February, Mayor Adams claimed that, like Jesus Christ, they are being unjustly persecuted, specifically mentioning his deputy mayors as people of color.
“Look at this team, guys. Look at this team. Look at my, my deputy mayor!” he yelled. “Have you ever seen New York City run by so many chocolates? And get in line. Look! Look who's here. This is who's representing the city. That's why people hate me. Are you trying to understand why they hate me?”
