Georgia shooting suspect charged with 4 felony counts of murder

The suspect in Wednesday's school shooting in Georgia has been charged with four counts of murder, one for each person killed in the shooting.

14-year-old Colt Gray opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, killing two students and two teachers and wounding several more.

“Gray has been charged with four counts of felony murder in connection with yesterday's shooting at Apalachee High School,” the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said in a statement. stated in the post On social platform X.

Gray was transported to the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center awaiting additional charges. His initial court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Friday.

The GBI said autopsies on the four victims will be performed Thursday by the medical examiner's office. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.

“This is day two of a highly complex investigation, and the integrity of the case is of utmost importance to us,” the GBI post read. “We ask the public for their patience as we work toward a successful prosecution and justice for the victims.”

The FBI said Thursday that Gray had been questioned last year about past threats after the agency received “multiple anonymous tips” about online comments he had made about committing a school shooting. The FBI said it reviewed the information and contacted the Jackson County Sheriff's Office to ask them to take action.

Vice President Harris called the shooting a “senseless tragedy” in unscheduled remarks at a campaign rally on Wednesday. She said the country must end the epidemic of gun violence “for good.”

In a statement, President Biden said his administration would work with law enforcement officials at all levels.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (Republican) said in an online post that he had directed all state resources to respond to the scene.
