Authorities break up suspected gun trafficking network supplying firearms to Chicago

Gun-Trafficking Ring in Georgia and Chicago Disbanded

Federal authorities have taken down a suspected gun-trafficking network that allegedly operated between Georgia and Chicago. Prosecutors claim this operation funneled numerous firearms to street gangs, some of which have been linked to juvenile murders and violent crimes.

This month, a 23-count federal indictment was unsealed in the Middle District of Georgia, charging five individuals. This action followed an investigation led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) as part of a Homeland Security Task Force initiative.

Key defendants Anthony Edmond and Rafael Enriquez are facing serious charges, including conspiracy related to firearms trafficking and drug offenses. If found guilty, they could receive sentences of up to life in prison. Additionally, three other suspects are implicated in federal firearms conspiracy charges.

According to the indictment, Edmond is reportedly linked to the Black Disciples gang based in Chicago and has affiliations with another gang known as the Vice Lords.

Prosecutors indicate that Edmond was instructed by co-conspirators to purchase guns from stores in Georgia under false pretenses. These firearms were then transported and distributed among gang members in Chicago.

Documents reveal that between 2020 and 2021, Edmond acquired dozens of firearms, with a notable spike in purchases—at least 22 guns over a period of ten months.

The indictment claims that some of these weapons were transformed into fully automatic firearms and later used in a number of violent incidents.

Prosecutors further assert that Edmond not only purchased guns but also obtained ammunition and specialized magazines, even test-firing the weapons before handing them over. He is suspected of making several trips from Georgia to Illinois to supply firearms to Chicago gang members.

Authorities reported recovering 20 guns that Edmond is believed to have bought across three states from 2021 to 2026.

In one case, a Glock pistol was found in the room of a known juvenile gang member in Chicago back in 2021. Forensic tests linked this firearm to three violent crimes, including a murder that took place shortly after Edmond purchased it in Georgia just 36 days prior.
