A spokesman for J.D. Vance slammed the Associated Press for publishing a headline Thursday that suggested the Republican vice presidential nominee had dismissed school shootings as “a fact of life.”
In exclusive comments to Fox News Digital, Vance spokesman William Martin attacked the AP.
“This is another example of the Fake News Media brazenly lying about Republican politicians. Senator Vance said the exact opposite of what the AP claimed. It's no surprise the AP has lost all the credibility it had a few years ago because they will literally lie about anything to support Democrats. Meanwhile, Kamala Harris is calling for all police officers to be removed from schools, putting children all over America at risk. This is yet another example of how Kamala Harris' weak, failed and dangerously liberal policies make her unfit for office,” Martin said.
At the rally in Phoenix, Vance spoke out in response to the recent mass shooting that took place on Wednesday at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, Georgia.

J.D. Vance exposes “lie” at the “heart” of Kamala Harris' campaign: policies “caused food prices to soar”
“I hate that this is real,” Vance said, “but if you're a psychopath and you want to make headlines, you realize that schools are an ideal target. We need to beef up security in our schools, because if a psychopath wants to come in through the front door and kill kids, he can't do it.”
But in reporting the remarks, the Associated Press seemed to imply that Vance had not lamented school shootings, calling them a “fact of life.”
The original headline was, “JD Vance says school shootings are 'everyday occurrence' and calls for increased security.”
This headline also appeared in X's post, but was later removed after receiving a community note.
“Misleading headline: The full story is: 'I hate that this is a fact of life,'” the memo read.

The Associated Press later confirmed the update and replaced both the headline and X's post.
New Headlines “J.D. Vance laments that school shootings are 'an everyday occurrence,' and calls for better security,” the article reads.
“The post replaces an earlier post, which was deleted, to add context to a partial quote from Mr. Vance,” the Associated Press reported.

Fox News Digital has reached out to The Associated Press for comment.
The Harris-Waltz campaign responded by attacking Vance and former President Trump.
“Yesterday, VP Harris said 'this doesn't have to happen' in the wake of yet another senseless school shooting. Donald Trump and J.D. Vance believe school shootings are 'a fact of life' and 'we must get past it,'” Amaal Moosa, a spokesperson for Harris-Walz2024, said in a statement.

Musa added, “We know that VP Harris and Governor Walz can take action to keep our kids safe and keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Donald Trump and J.D. Vance will always choose the NRA and the gun lobby over our kids. That's the choice you'll make in this election.”
