The former Labour MP has denied inciting violent disorder with a speech in which he called for the beheading of political opponents.
Ricky Jones, 57, appeared in court again on a charge of inciting violent disorder over his speech in August at a “peace rally” held in response to days of unrest across England and Wales. A recording of the rally could be heard holding his fingers to his throat as he shouted into a microphone, “They're nasty, they're Nazi fascists, we need to slit all their throats and get rid of them.”
court Report by Independent Notes Mr Jones, who was a Labour MP and trade unionist at the time of the speech, admitted through his defence lawyer Hossein Zahir KC that the words were indeed uttered but that he did not realise it was unlawful to say them.
Appearing in court by video link from Wormwood Scrubs Prison, where he has been held since his arrest, Jones identified himself and pleaded not guilty.
The judge set the trial date for Jan. 20, 2025.
