The Miami Dolphins have been trying in recent weeks to keep some of their key players on the team for a little longer.
Head coach Mike McDaniels was rewarded with a multi-year contract extension last week after the Dolphins signed quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Now Miami has shifted its attention to defense.
Cornerback Jalen Ramsey, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, agreed to a three-year, $72.3 million contract extension, which was first reported by NFL Network.

Ramsey's new contract surpasses the four-year extension that Denver Broncos star defensive back Patrick Surtain II signed earlier this week, once again making him the highest-paid player at his position in the NFL.

Ramsey has recorded 22 interceptions and six forced fumbles over the past eight seasons. At 29 years old, he has proven he is still capable of covering one side of the football field effectively.

But first-year Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver suggested Ramsey will move around on both ends of the field this season.
The Dolphins acquired Ramsey in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams last offseason.

He missed the first half of the 2023 season after suffering a knee injury early in Miami's first training camp and undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. He returned for his first season with the Dolphins, recording three interceptions and 22 tackles.
