Preparations began days ago to ensure the 78-year-old could attend the debate safely.
Trump was convicted in May 2023 of sexually assaulting the “Ask E. Jean” advice columnist in a Bergdorf Goodman fitting room in 1996 and defaming her on Oct. 12.NumberIn 2022, Truth Social called her lawsuit a “hoax.”
Trump has steadfastly denied attacking Carroll, who is not attending the first trial in 2023.
“Mr. Trump is here today,” Carroll's lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, told the court during Friday's hearing, “and he was given ample opportunity to take the stand and rebut all of the evidence. He did not put a single witness on the stand.”
Trump's lawyers argue that the jury's verdict should be tossed out because evidence that was admitted at trial should have been excluded, but other evidence that should have been allowed was also excluded.
Trump's lawyer, Will Scharf, said the lawsuit is invalid due to a lack of evidence, a missing police report and a lack of witnesses.
He added that the former president did not receive a fair trial in New York.
