Judge Juan Marchand delayed sentencing of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's business records conviction until after the election, handing the former president a major win.
After a previous postponement, Trump's sentencing was scheduled for September 18. Judge Marchan further postponed the sentencing date to November 26.
President Trump requested the delay to allow more time to challenge the conviction.
This is not the first setback for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg since convicting Trump on 34 charges in May. After the Supreme Court ruled in July that the president enjoys executive immunity for acts performed in official capacity, Trump asked Marchan to have the conviction overturned, leading to an initial delay in sentencing.
Trump has also attacked Marchan for financially benefiting from his prosecution. The House Judiciary Committee has subpoenaed Marchan's daughter, Lauren Marchan, for all documents related to the company's work for Democratic campaigns, including the Biden-Harris campaign. The Biden-Harris campaign has attacked Trump's legal battles, including Marchan's in-court fights.
