Tag holder Megan Sasser was with several family members when she saw the alligator, but said she didn't realize how big the creature was until she got closer.

Sasser later got the official measurements and said, “Although it was a few pounds shy of the record weight, two inches shy of the record length and an inch shy of the girth needed to break the state record, I wasn't disappointed. It was still the catch of a lifetime.”
