Harris Should Not ‘Underestimate’ Trump, ‘He Is a Skilled Debater’

Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-Pennsylvania) said Friday on ABC's “The View” that Vice President Kamala Harris shouldn't underestimate her opponent, former President Donald Trump, in the debate.

Co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin said, “Kamala Harris is running a very different campaign than she did in 2020. She has moved to the center on many issues and has retracted previous positions, including calling for a ban on fracking, as she prepares for a must-see debate with former President Trump on Tuesday. Do you think it was a strategic mistake that she didn't elaborate on these changes in position before the debate, since obviously she will be challenged on some of these things on the debate stage?”

“First of all, I think evolving your position is a sign of strength,” Shapiro said.

He continued, “When it comes to the debates, listen, we want to criticize Donald Trump, but he's a liar and he's evil in every way. I think you've said this before, but people know Donald Trump. He's a skilled debater. He's a guy who will say anything, anytime, to get a question done. And he's a showman. He's been on TV.”

He added, “So don't underestimate Donald Trump. I've known Kamala Harris for 20 years. She's very tough. She's a prosecutor. Like I said, she'll be ready. She's very prepared. But this is going to be a tough debate. Also, she's been practicing for this debate, meeting with her team in Pittsburgh, so she might say 'yinz' during the debate. We'll see after this weekend if she has any Pittsburgh culture in her.”
