HBO host Bill Maher called out liberals for slandering actress Cheryl Hines for continuing to support former President Trump even though her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., endorsed him last month.

The “Real Time” host defended Hines, the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star, from liberals who were angry on social media for not condemning her husband after he suspended his presidential campaign and endorsed Trump.

“Go after your wife? Not even the mafia does that,” Maher said in a recent episode of his HBO talk show.

Hines faced heavy criticism after sharing an X post voicing support for Kennedy and his campaign following their decision on Aug. 23. The statement read, “The decision has been made to suspend the presidency of my husband, Robert Kennedy Jr., and I would like to express my deepest and sincere gratitude to all those who worked tirelessly and lovingly on his campaign.”

Hines' statement seemed conciliatory, considering she's no fan of Trump. A few days after Hines' post, Kennedy told TMZ that she supported her husband's decision, even though it wasn't what his wife wanted.

“This is the exact opposite of what she wanted,” he told the outlet, adding, “She went along with it because she loves me and wanted to support me, but I don't think she ever encouraged it.”

Hines' post garnered millions of views and angry responses from the left, infuriated that she had not publicly denounced her husband for his support of Trump.

Maher on Friday night attacked disgruntled social media users, calling them bullies and saying they had revealed an “ugliness” in liberals he had never seen before.

Maher began by explaining how well-received Hines has been in Hollywood, quoting Larry David, the creator and star of “Curve Your Enthusiasm,” as calling Hines “the best guy I've ever met. The only guy in Hollywood who doesn't have any enemies.”

The presenter then commented: “Well, I think so now, because she didn't blame her husband when he made a decision that she very clearly said she was against.”

“But that didn't satisfy those aforementioned obnoxious far-left posturors,” he added, before reading out several posts condemning Hines, including one from “The West Wing” actor Bradley Whitford.

The day after Kennedy endorsed Trump, Whitford attacked Hines with an X, writing, “Hey @CherylHines, how incredible that you remain silent while your crazy husband supports a convicted rapist who brags about stripping women of their basic rights. Courageous. Great example for your kids. Profile in courage.”

The “Real Time” host grilled Whitford, saying, “You know what I don't think is courageous? Mansplaining to a woman, not to her face of course, that she should sacrifice her marriage so you can read something convincing on Twitter.”

He was scathing of the overall response, adding: “You want to know why I'm more angry at the left than I was before? Here's why. There's an ugliness to them that they never had before. None of the liberals I grew up looking up to were like this.”

He added: “There are a lot of people these days who you could theoretically call liberals. In theory, they hate bullying. It's terrible. In practice, their attitude is that sticking your head in a toilet isn't bullying.”

The comedian again criticized Whitford, saying, “In theory, liberals are compassionate. But in reality, this guy can't even understand the most basic dilemma shared by all human beings: that when you get married, you sometimes have to put up with crap.”
