Ukrainian Tennis Player Although Lyudmila Kichenok didn't get the ring, her story had a fairy-tale ending.
Kichenok and her women's doubles partner, Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, won the tournament. US Open She defeated Kristina Mladenovic and Zhang Shuai in straight sets to win the title on Friday.

The pair didn't drop a set throughout the tournament, but Kichenok did drop one pretty significant commitment earlier this week.
“My boyfriend is [my] “Actually, I was supposed to get married to my husband, but he couldn't get married this Wednesday,” she said of Ostapenko's coach, Stas Humarski. “Actually, we were supposed to get married this Wednesday, but he was in the semifinals, so he couldn't get married this Wednesday.” [we couldn’t.]”

“I think it's a good excuse to postpone it a little bit,” Ostapenko added.
Kichenok and Ostapenko led 4-1 in the first set, but Mladenovic and Chang fought back to tie the score at 4-4. Kichenok and Ostapenko hung in there to win the first set 6-2, but dropped the opening two games of the second set.
The pair came back to win the match 6-4, 6-3.

Kichenok was able to celebrate after the match with some champagne. American tennis player Jessica Pegula Ahead of Saturday's women's singles final, she sent Kichenok a bottle and a heartfelt message, which Kichenok shared on her Instagram Story.
“Just found out you were planning to get married on Wednesday,” the note read. “Congrats on a great tournament and enjoy your wedding!”
