American Anti-Israel Activist Killed in Clashes Between Israeli Soldiers, Palestinians

An American affiliated with an anti-Israel organization was shot dead on Friday during clashes between Israeli forces and violent Palestinian protesters near Nablus in Samaria (northern West Bank).

The Times of Israel reported:

An American woman was shot and killed by the Israel Defense Forces during protests Friday near Nablus in the northern West Bank, two doctors told The Associated Press.

It was also reported that a 13-year-old Palestinian girl was shot dead when militant settlers attacked a village near Nablus and clashed with villagers.

The murdered woman identified herself as Aysenul Ezgi Egi, 26, an American of Turkish origin, and was reportedly an activist with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM).

The circumstances of both deaths are unknown.

NGO Monitor Notes The International Solidarity Movement is a radical organisation that claims to conduct non-violent protests but rhetorically supports violent “resistance”. Terrorists have been linked to the group in the past.

Its activists often seek dangerous confrontations with Israeli authorities, including ISM activist Rachel Corley, who was killed in 2003 while protesting against Israeli bulldozers.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is visiting the Dominican Republic, commented on Egi's death: said:

On behalf of the U.S. government, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Aysenur Aygi. We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss. The most important thing right now is to gather the facts. We are doing just that, and we are fully committed to gathering the facts. And any action we take will be fact-based. So, let's first find out exactly what happened and then draw the necessary conclusions and consequences from there. As I have said many times before, my number one priority is the safety and protection of American citizens around the world. Wherever they are, I take this with the utmost seriousness. So, as we have more information, we will share it, we will make it public, and we will act as necessary.

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters that the Biden administration is pressing Israeli authorities to investigate but that it is premature to take further action until the facts are fully known.
