An attempted robbery at a Zara clothing store in Soho left a security guard injured and customers fleeing, witnesses said.
According to authorities, police were quelling a disturbance that broke out at 503 Broadway just after 3 p.m. Saturday.
An NYPD spokesman said officers responded to a report of shots fired inside the store and encountered a man they believed to be a store security guard who had “been hit in the head with a bottle.”
“It's a bit unclear at this point” what happened, the spokesman said.
“There was a shooting at Zara in Soho and literally everyone running. This is the most horrifying thing I have ever seen,” he posted. Jasmine C. Green To X.
“Tell me why everyone is scared and running away from Zara when there are over 20 police officers across the street,” posted a woman with the handle @itslaurlmao, who says she's from Toronto, sharing a photo from Times Square on Friday night.
A bystander said a store security guard was hit over the head with a bottle and two suspects fled in a silver car.
No other injuries were reported, police said.
No arrests were made.
