Former President Trump posted online that the upcoming debates would not use props or lifts to make candidates appear taller, claiming that this was cheating.
“At the upcoming debate with Comrade Kamala Harris, no one will be allowed to stand on a box or artificial lift. This was also discussed when former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg participated in the debate, but he was not allowed to ride in the 'lift.'” Trump posted In a post on his Truth Social site, he said: “It's a form of cheating, and the Democrats have cheated enough. They've decided, 'You are you!'
President Trump is scheduled to face off against Vice President Harris in a highly-anticipated presidential debate in Philadelphia on Tuesday.
The two sides squabbled over the rules of the debate, with Harris's campaign wanting to break with the rules agreed upon during the Trump-Biden debate and keep microphones on while the other candidate was speaking.
Trump later questioned whether he would attend the debate, but a set of rules was ultimately agreed to this week.
The former president won the coin toss to choose the final closing remarks of the debate, and Harris picked the correct spot on the podium.
The debate is being hosted by ABC News, which released information about the rules: Candidates will have two minutes to answer a question, two minutes for a rebuttal, and one minute for a follow-up, explanation, or response. There will be no audience, and each candidate will have two minutes for closing remarks.
Each candidate will be provided with a pen, notepad and water bottle, no pre-written notes or props will be allowed on stage, and campaign staff will not be allowed to interact with candidates during commercial breaks.
Harris is 5ft 4in tall and claims to be even taller in heels; Trump is 6ft 3in.
