Leaked images and packaging have revealed that Wendy's is set to release a limited-time menu item inspired by the SpongeBob Squarepants cartoon “Club Patty” next month.
First a note from an employee announcing the product, followed by an image of the “Secret Club Patty Sauce” packaging was shared on social media.
The employee memo was posted to Reddit's r/SpongeBob on August 21. In the post, user “Bellos1” said he worked at Wendy's and that the memo was sent to the restaurant by corporate headquarters. In a follow-up post a few days later, Bellos1 claimed he was fired after posting the memo on Reddit.

“Wendy's will debut its own version of SpongeBob Squarepants' iconic carnival on October 8th as part of an exclusive carnival collaboration with Paramount Pictures,” the memo read. The promotion is part of the 25th anniversary celebration of “SpongeBob Squarepants,” which debuted in 1999.
Paramount is the parent company of Nickelodeon.

“In addition to the Club Patty, we will also be launching a new Frosty flavor: Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty,” the memo states.
The Wendy's Club Patty is “a premium cheeseburger made with Wendy's fresh, never-frozen beef and topped with fresh ingredients and secret Club Patty Sauce, recreating the appeal of the iconic fictional sandwich for SpongeBob fans,” the memo said.
No other details about the burger were listed, including details about the “produce.”
In the TV show “The SpongeBob Squarepants,” the main character, SpongeBob, is employed as a fry cook at a fast food restaurant called Krusty Krab.

The restaurant's specialty is the club patty, which is similar to a burger.
A recurring plot line throughout the show involves Plankton, the owner of a rival restaurant, the Chum Bucket, attempting to get hold of the recipe for the Krabby Patty.

According to the memo, the new Frosty flavor was inspired by SpongeBob's house.
The opening lyrics of the SpongeBob Squarepants theme song are “Who lives in a pineapple at the bottom of the sea?” followed by “SpongeBob Squarepants.”
The memo said the new Frosty was a “vanilla Frosty with pineapple-mango puree.”
Reaction to the Club Patty was mostly positive, but many Reddit users pointed out that unlike the one depicted on the show, Wendy's Club Patty is not suitable for vegetarians.

“The club patty is a beef patty, not a vegetarian patty as stated by the producers, nor is it the one featured on the Burger Beard food truck in The SpongeBob Movie,” Reddit user “Stormygeddon” said, referring to the 2015 film The SpongeBob Movie: The SpongeBob Adventure.
“The club patty has no meat and the bun is a 'fluffy seaweed bun,' so I was imagining a Beyond Burger with a seaweed flavored bun, cheese, veggies, and secret sauce,” said Reddit user “I-m_A_Lady.”

The show's late creator, Stephen Hillenburg, said in a 2004 interview with The New York Times that he was against the idea of a real-life version of Club Patty because he didn't want to market it to kids.
Hillenburg passed away in 2018 after a battle with ALS.
Wendy's has not confirmed the authenticity of the note, but the chain has not denied it either.

Evidence posted by other users on social media further suggests the memo is accurate, saying that “automated sauce deliveries” to restaurants would begin on September 2.
An image of the “Club Patty Secret Sauce” box and packaging was shared on the r/Wendy's subreddit by user “catbear33” on September 3. In the post, the user noted that the restaurant “just got this in stock today,” which lines up with the timeframe listed in the memo.
