U.S. women's national soccer team star Alex Morgan's illustrious soccer career is coming to an end.

On Thursday, September 5, the World Cup champion announced not only that she is retiring from professional soccer, but that she is also pregnant with her second child. Morgan and her husband, Servando Carrasco, already have a 4-year-old daughter, Charlie.

“This isn't the retirement video I expected when I first thought about doing this because Charlie is going to be a big sister,” Morgan explained. Inspirational Video Posted in X.

Morgan is currently a striker for San Diego Wave FC in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), and today, September 8th, she will play professionally for Wave FC in a match against North Carolina Courage.

Alex Morgan's Biography:

Morgan's 13-and-a-half-year career is filled with accomplishments. She played 337 games with the U.S. Women's National Team, helping the team win two World Cup titles (2015, 2019), an Olympic Gold Medal (2012) and an Olympic Bronze Medal (2020). She also won three CONCACAF World Cup Championships and one CONCACAF World Cup Gold Cup with the U.S. Women's National Team.

Also, during her time with the U.S. Women's National Team, she was part of a coalition of five players who filed a federal complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging that the U.S. Soccer Association was paying female players less than their male counterparts, ultimately resulting in a landmark equal pay agreement.

Individually, Morgan is a two-time U.S. Soccer Women's Player of the Year (2012, 2018), a five-time member of the FIFA FIFPRO Women's World XI (2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022) and a four-time CONCACAF Player of the Year (2013, 2016, 2017, 2018).

Morgan competed in the NWSL's inaugural season in 2013 and was a member of the Portland Thorns FC first team. She has also played for the Orlando Pride and is currently captain of San Diego Wave FC. She has won every NWSL title, including the NWSL Championship, NWSL Shield and NWSL Challenge Cup.

Additionally, Morgan won the French Division 1 Feminine title at Olympique Lyonnaise Feminine.
