Caitlin Clark reacts to Angel Reese’s season-ending injury: ‘Devastating’

Caitlin Clark spoke about the news that fellow rookie Angel Reese's season is over.

The Fever superstar called the development “sad” and said Reese had “accomplished great things” during her first season in the WNBA.

Reese announced his season was over on social media on Saturday night, with the Sky confirming the news and suggesting it was a wrist injury that forced the Louisiana State University product to cut his first pro season short.

“Obviously it's sad to see somebody go down with an injury, especially somebody that you came into this league with,” Clark said. “Cam [Brink]”Angel, especially Angel. You want to see how she finishes out the year. Obviously, she's had a historic year and she's done some great things.”

Fans and critics have viewed Clarke and Reese as rivals, but the two have stayed out of the debate and have always praised each other.

Reese finished her rookie season averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds, setting a new WNBA single-season rebounding record.

She also set a rookie record with 26 double-doubles.

“For me, having played against her, her engine is one of the best, if not the best, in the league and she just keeps working non-stop,” Clark continued. “So congratulations to her. I think she's had a great year and as far as I'm concerned, I think she's really done what she's done coming into the league and doing what she's done in her career so far. So this is definitely devastating. I never want to see that happen to a player.”

“And then, obviously, our rookies had a lot more injuries than you would want to have.”

Clark and Reese, who became the faces of the WNBA in their first season and broke one record after another, have been driving forces behind the surge in interest in women's basketball dating back to their college days.

Reese's injury appears to have occurred during Friday's game against the Sparks.

“What a year it has been. Never expected the last bucket of my rookie season to be a three but maybe it was God telling them to give me a taste of what we will see more of in year two lol,” Reese wrote on social media on Saturday.
