Harris doubles down on support for left-wing benefit for illegal immigrants: ‘Smart solutions’

In her new campaign policy page, Vice President Kamala Harris is doubling down on her support for a “path to citizenship” for undocumented immigrants while laying out a tougher approach to border security overall.

“Vice President Harris and Governor Walz believe in tough, smart solutions to secure our border, make our communities safe, and reform our broken immigration system,” reads a lengthy “issues” page on her campaign website.

page Harris is facing pressure over her policy positions, whether to maintain the more radical ones she took during the 2020 presidential primary and how different they will be from those of a Biden administration.

As a candidate, she supported decriminalizing illegal border crossings, called for closing immigrant detention centers on her first day in office and spoke about starting Immigration and Customs Enforcement “from scratch.”

The Biden administration introduced a sweeping immigration reform bill with a core component of a path to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants already in the U.S. after taking office in 2021. The bill did not move forward after being introduced in the Senate, but the administration has repeatedly voiced its support for the measure.

More recently, after a historic three-year crisis at the border, the administration's attention has shifted to a bipartisan Senate bill that would impose some restrictions on entry into the U.S. and increase funding for the border, though it does not include an amnesty path.

On her campaign page, Harris noted that as California's attorney general, she “pursued international drug cartels, human trafficking rings and drug cartels who smuggle guns, drugs and people across the U.S.-Mexico border,” and noted that she supports border security bills.

“As vice president, she supported a bipartisan border security bill, the strongest reform in decades, that would have implemented more detection technology to intercept fentanyl and other drugs and added 1,500 Border Patrol agents to secure the border,” she said.

She also boasted about the recent drop in migrants crossing the border after President Biden signed an executive order limiting the ability of new migrants to apply for asylum at the border.

“As president, she will reinstate bipartisan border security legislation and sign it into law,” she said, before emphasizing that she still wants to offer a path to citizenship to people in the country illegally.

“At the same time, she recognizes that our nation's immigration system is broken and needs comprehensive reform, including strong border security and a pathway to citizenship,” the report said.

This is Harris' latest expression of support for amnesty for the millions of illegal immigrants currently in the United States.

“We have Congress takes action “We will put adequate resources on the border and do what we know is necessary to create a meaningful pathway to citizenship,” she said in June.

Similarly, she called for an “earnable path to citizenship” in her speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last month.

Harris' campaign acknowledged to Fox News last month that she had changed her positions on some issues, with a campaign adviser telling Fox that her positions were “shaped by three years of effective governance as part of the Biden-Harris Administration.”

Her campaign said she believes illegal border crossings are illegal and wants to ensure there are enough resources to prioritize the detention and deportation of some illegal immigrants, and she reiterated her support for a bipartisan Senate bill to increase funding at the border.
