Alan Dershowitz announced he was leaving the Democratic Party because he was “disgusted” by the events he witnessed at last month's Democratic National Convention.

Dershowitz spoke with radio host Zev Brenner on August 23.rdHe said he felt the Chicago convention was “the worst convention in American history” because of the number of speakers who publicly voiced their opposition to Israel.
“There were a lot more anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist people speaking out. [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez] “Pathetic anti-Zionist bigots,” Dershowitz said, “and of course they [Sen. Elizabeth] Warren is one of the most anti-Semitic people in the Senate. And then we had Bernie Sanders, who is one of the most anti-Semitic people in the Senate.”
He went on to argue that the Democratic Party had knowingly given “legitimacy” to anti-Israel rhetoric by allowing open opponents of the Jewish state to speak at the Democratic National Convention.
“[B]”Giving them a platform means that when AOC calls Israel a genocidal nation and denounces it, she gets the Democratic Party's stamp of approval,” he explained.
“I was sick of the Democratic National Convention,” he added. “I was really sick of it.”
“I'm no longer a Democrat. I'm an Independent,” he continued, but did not say who he plans to vote for on Election Day.
“I'm going to weigh the situation as a whole and then decide at the last moment who I'm going to vote for,” Dershowitz explained. “I want to see how they deal with Iran. I want to see how they deal with an Iranian attack on the United States. I want to urge the current administration to support Israel. So I'm not going to reveal who I'm voting for until November 1st.”
Dershowitz said he is slowly moving away from the party, but noted that his actions at the Democratic National Convention were the best thing that could have happened to him in his decision.
“I cannot be associated with the party that appears as the speaker, AOC. [Al] “Sharpton, Liz Warren, Bernie Sanders,” he said. “That's not my party.”
