Democrats Tell Kamala Harris to Throw Her Record Under the Bus

Democrats believe Vice President Kamala Harris will be exposed as the status quo candidate of the past three and a half years in Tuesday's debate and will be forced to acknowledge the failures of the Biden-Harris administration.

Harris has a clear weakness as vice president: Campaigning on policies to improve crime, inflation and border security could undermine the policies of the Biden-Harris administration, but she must tout the administration's policies to make the case for her record and her candidacy.

“This debate will be a challenge for Harris. She will have to decide to what extent she will embrace or distance herself from President Biden and his policies at a time when polls show many Americans are craving change.” The New York Times Acknowledged Monday. “This is a challenge that other vice presidents have faced in their presidential campaigns.”

Sixty-one percent of voters believe the next president should represent a major change from the Biden-Harris administration, but only 25% say Harris represents that change. Times/University of Siena Found Sunday, a majority said Trump represents change.

Only 26.9% of Americans believe According to the RealClearPolitics average, the country is heading in the right direction.

Democrats have suggested that to overcome the “challenges” in Tuesday's debate, Harris needs to blame the administration for failing to deliver on its promises — a dangerous move that could damage her own candidacy.

“Instead, the framework should, and probably will, be, 'Much has been done, but much more remains to be done,'” said Robert Shrum, a longtime Democratic political strategist. Times.

“I think it's important to be mindful of what's going on in the Democratic Party,” said Bakari Sellers, a Harris ally and Democratic political commentator. Hospitalized “We praise Biden and we talk about his accomplishments, but we also have to acknowledge that the work is not done,” Harris said.

The dilemma was already laid bare by CNN's Dana Bash in Ms Harris' first and only pre-recorded interview, in which she tried to navigate the challenge by acknowledging her administration's economic record while shifting the blame for it to Mr Trump.

The contradiction was stark: the vice president was forced to promote his administration's policies to justify his candidacy, while at the same time undermining his own record and the legitimacy of his candidacy.

“So you're claiming Bidenomics is a success?” Basch asked in an interview.

“I'd say it's a good job,” Harris responded. “There's still work to be done, but it's a good job.”
