Bodycam footage shows how Tyreek Hill detainment escalated

Body camera footage is shedding new light on the police detention of Dolphins star Tyreek Hill outside Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.

Newly released footage shows how things quickly escalated and became chaotic after Miami-Dade police pulled Hill over for speeding.

He was charged with careless driving and a seat belt violation before being released at the scene, according to ESPN.

Teammate Callie Campbell also stopped his car to try and defuse the situation and was taken into custody.

Officer body camera footage shows the moment police approached Hill's car and knocked on the window, prompting objections from the eight-time Pro Bowl player.

“Hey, don't knock on the window like that,” Hill can be heard telling the officer, who then asked Hill why he wasn't wearing his seat belt.

The first officer tried to explain why he had knocked to get Hill's attention, but Hill, who had apparently already handed over his license, asked the officer to give him a ticket so he could leave, then rolled up his window.

The officer protested against the window, and when Hill rolled it down slightly, the officer ordered Hill to exit the vehicle.

The chaos began when Hill refused to roll down the window for the co-pilot.
As wide receiver Tyreek Hill was being detained before Sunday's game, officers pulled him from his car.
Hill was pulled from the car by multiple officers.

Hill can be heard saying he was going to get out of the car, at which point a second officer opened the car door, pulled the Dolphins receiver from the car and, with the help of a third officer, wrestled him to the ground.

“Hey, Drew, you're going to be arrested,” Hill said, holding up his cell phone and apparently on the phone with agent Drew Rosenhaus at the time.

Hill is then seen being surrounded by police officers and handcuffed.

During the incident, several officers pulled Hill to the ground and handcuffed him.

“When we tell you to do something, you understand,” the officer said, “not when you want to do it, but when we tell you to do it. You're a bit confused.”

Hill eventually gets up, but moments later, when he fails to sit down on the curb after being asked to do so by an officer, another officer arrives and violently pushes him down.

“I just had knee surgery,” Hill tried to tell the officer.

Dolphins teammate Calais Campbell tried to help but ended up handcuffed himself.

Other Dolphins teammates also responded to the scene and spoke with officers.

“When I told you to open the window, did you have ear surgery?” the officer shouted back.

Miami-Dade Police Chief Stephanie V. Daniels said in a statement that in an effort to show transparency, the police will release a total of 105 minutes and 33 seconds of body camera footage to the public.

“The agency is committed to conducting a thorough and objective investigation into this matter and will continue to keep the public informed of its findings,” the statement said.
