An illegal immigrant was accused of kidnapping a teenage girl in Manassas, Virginia, on Thursday, nearly eight months after she was released into the U.S. at the southern border.
Jesús Enrique Ramírez Cabrera, a 23-year-old illegal immigrant from Peru, was arrested. Charged A man was arrested Friday on charges of kidnapping, robbery, impersonating a police officer and petty theft after he allegedly abducted a teenage girl on her way to high school.
According to Manassas Police, Cabrera approached the girl as she was walking to school on Sept. 5. Police allege Cabrera told the girl he was a police officer and forced her into the passenger seat of his car.
After driving about two miles, the girl told police she was able to escape Cabrera's vehicle. A witness saw the girl on the side of the road and stopped to help. Police were then called to the scene.
Two days later, police identified Cabrera as the prime suspect and arrested him.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has since Confirmed Cabrera was an illegal immigrant from Peru and was released into the United States by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris' Department of Homeland Security (DHS), he told Fox News.
An ICE spokesperson told Fox News:
Jesús Enrique Ramirez Cabrera is a 23-year-old Peruvian alien who is in the U.S. illegally. The U.S. Border Patrol arrested Ramirez on December 19, 2023, near San Luis, Arizona, after he entered the country illegally. [Border Patrol] Ramirez was given a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge and released from custody.
Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares said the Biden-Harris administration bears responsibility for the kidnapping.
“This horrific crime is a direct result of Kamala Harris prioritizing political agendas over the safety of the American people. This is not just negligence, it's a betrayal,” Miyares said. Cabrera is being held without bail at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center. ICE agents have issued a detention order for Cabrera, requesting that he be held if he is released at any time.
