ABC Coverage 100% Positive for Harris, 93% Negative for Trump

ABC News Program Tonight's World News A recent report found that Facebook was generally positive in its coverage of Vice President Kamala Harris and generally negative in its coverage of former President Donald Trump.

a Report The Media Research Centre's (MRC) News Busters analyzed 100 election stories broadcast on television, Tonight's world news, The segment, hosted by David Muir, found “25 clearly positive statements” about Harris from “reporters, news anchors, voters and other non-partisan sources,” representing 100% positive coverage from the media reporting on Harris' behalf.

The 100 campaign articles examined by MRC were from July 21 to September 6, the period when Harris was running for president in 2024.

An analysis of ABC's coverage of Trump found “five clearly positive statements” and “66 clearly negative statements,” meaning that 93 percent of media coverage on Trump's behalf was negative.

“ABC's reporters and anchors created a very negative impression in their coverage of the former president, either by criticizing Trump themselves or by airing negative commentary from nonpartisan sources,” MRC's NewsBusters report said.

One example of the media's bias in reporting on the Trump vs. Harris matchup is: Interview During a January 2017 meeting between Muir and Trump, Muir appeared to suggest that Trump was not presidential enough to talk about public support, but Muir continued to press Trump about it.

DAVID MUIR: Mr. President, I have one more question on this. This is a much bigger issue. You visited the CIA and then you denounced in front of a hallowed wall that bears the stars of 117 people who died at the CIA. You talked about other things, too. But you also talked about the size of the inauguration crowd, the size of the rally, the cover of Time magazine. So I just want to ask you: When did all of this stop mattering a little bit? When did it stop bothering you now that you're president?

Throughout the interview, Trump continued to talk about his speech, saying that while media outlets like Fox News called it “brilliant,” ABC News and “other networks reported it very inaccurately.”

PRESIDENT TRUMP: And they tried to insult me. Excuse me?

David Muir: Personally, I don't think so.

PRESIDENT TRUMP: It wasn't you personally, it was your network that tried to disparage the speech. I know things are good and things are bad. The polls just came out on my inaugural speech, and the amazing thing is, people loved it. They loved it. Amazing polls.

David Muir: I think that's it. You talked about the polls and how people liked your inaugural address and the size of your…

PRESIDENT TRUMP: No, because you brought it up.

David Muir: Well, I'm asking, on the first day…

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well, you brought that up. I didn't bring that up. I didn't want to talk about the inaugural address. But I think I did a very good job, and people really liked it. You saw the polls. They just came out this morning. You brought that up. I didn't bring that up.

DAVID MUIR: So the polls and the attendance figures and the cover of Time magazine still matter now that you're president.

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well, you keep repeating that. There were a tremendous number of people here. They were showing very awkward photos, photos taken from certain angles, photos taken early on, a variety of different photos. I'll show you some photos of the massive crowd later, if you want.

In another example, Interview In August 2020, Muir spoke to then-Democratic presidential and vice presidential nominees Joe Biden and Harris, asking Biden if he blamed President Trump for deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic, accusing the Trump administration of inaction.

MUIR: There's a lot I want to talk about here, but I want to talk about the current sombre situation in our country. The pandemic has now claimed the lives of over 170,000 Americans. Mr. Vice President, you said people are dying because of this inaction. Do you blame President Trump for the loss of lives?

Biden: I don't blame him for the coronavirus crisis. I blame him for running away and not working on the solutions. All this crazy talk about this will go away, miracles will happen, bleach and its uses, but he's not listening to the scientists.

MUIR: But do you believe the current administration's inaction has cost lives?

In another example, Muir Blessed “We're going to make history,” Harris said, referencing former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's (R-New Jersey) nomination. pointing It turns out Democrats have rejected the election results before.

“David, this goes all the way back to George W. Bush in 2000, when Al Gore's supporters refused to recognize George W. Bush as legitimate even after Vice President Gore acknowledged the election results and himself, as President of the Senate, certified the results,” Christie said Tuesday. “Hillary Clinton said she still hadn't accepted the results of the 2016 election as legitimate. This is a very dangerous thing in this country. It's been taken to a new level in 2020 with Donald Trump.”

Muir quickly interjected, stressing that Gore “stood before the nation and actually conceded defeat and conducted himself in a completely different way than what we saw.”

This was reported by Muir and ABC News Live anchor Lindsay Davis. Prime Intention Moderate The presidential debate between Harris and Trump will take place on Tuesday.

The MRC report states: CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News The vice president received “very favorable coverage,” while the former president received negative coverage.

But CBS's coverage of Harris was 94 percent positive, while its coverage of Trump was 77 percent negative, and NBC's coverage of Harris was 71 percent positive, while its coverage of Trump was 86 percent negative.
