Tommy Pigott: Trump Has Clearly Stated His Goals Regarding Iran

During a debate on Monday morning, State Department spokesman Tommy Piggott emphasized that there is no ambiguity regarding President Donald Trump’s intentions toward Iran.

Host Mike Slater pointed out that Vice President J.D. Vance is currently in Switzerland for negotiations and asked Piggott to provide some insights into the situation.

“I really don’t want to get ahead of the discussions taking place,” Piggott explained. “By last night, there were various updates. The core issue, though, is that President Trump has made his aims quite transparent. There’s no uncertainty about his stance: the Iranian regime must not acquire nuclear weapons.”

“We’ve undertaken several operations, like Maximum Pressure and Epic Fury. These efforts aim at dismantling their nuclear ambitions and conventional military capability. Remember, there’s a military backdrop to this,” he added. “Every step forward aligns with the national interests of Americans, whether it’s building defense capabilities or confronting threats.”

Piggott concluded, “That’s the overall picture. We’ll see how these discussions unfold, but it’s evident that President Trump has been consistent with his goals from the start.”

Piggott’s comments came after President Trump warned that Iran’s actions in closing the Strait of Hormuz could trigger significant consequences, stating, “If we shut down, we won’t have a country,” and adding that returning home would be impossible for some.

Vance shared that initial negotiations were progressing positively.
