Husband fatally shoots wife, 2 kids months after domestic-violence arrest

A Texas father shot and killed his wife and two children, then turned the gun on himself, months after being arrested on domestic violence charges, police said.

Police responded to an Amarillo home on Saturday after receiving a 911 call from a relative and found the bodies of Jose David Olmos, 42, Jessica Rose Olmos, 33, and her two children, Daniel and Hazare Garcia, each suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. KAMR Local 4 News reported.

Police said the suspect, 42-year-old electrician Jose David Olmos, shot and killed three people before turning the gun on himself.

He was arrested in May on suspicion of assaulting a family member but was released on $5,000 bail.

According to court documents, the defendant beat his wife, was banned from contact with her and their children and was ordered to take an alcohol education course.

“Jessica had recently moved back home in an attempt to repair her marriage and improve her relationship and had her children living at the home at the time,” James Clements of the Amarillo Police Department's Homicide Division told the outlet.

According to the outlet, Jose Olmos was convicted of marijuana possession in 2001 and sentenced to one year in prison, and in 2008 he was sentenced to 90 days in prison for drunk driving.

Clements said the gun belonged to his wife and the defendant was not allowed to have access to it.

The children are Jessica's and are not related to Jose, Clements added.

The horrific murder, which came just months after the couple celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary, left their family shocked. According to Mail Online.

“Oh Jessica Olmos! I'm so sorry I couldn't help you,” family friend Clara Nunez wrote on Facebook.

“Jazzar and Daniel are amazing kids and I promise I will do everything in my power to make sure you are remembered forever. This is not the end, I promise!” she added.

The outlet said Jessica worked as an executive manager for the Jess Barra State Farm Agency and that her daughter, a seventh-grader, excelled in wrestling. The age of the youngest child, Daniel, was not immediately available.

The family member was found dead at his home in Amarillo, Texas, on Saturday.

Her stepdaughter, Arianna Olmos, notably omitted her father's name when paying tribute to the slain family members.

“My heart sank and shattered into pieces when I heard that three of the most caring people I know had earned their angel wings,” she wrote.

“My sweet Jazzar, I will miss your smile, your laugh and your goofy face. Daniel, I will miss your smile and your love of cars. Jessica, I am thankful to have someone like you as a mother-in-law, who shows me love and care.”

She continued, “I am so grateful that God put you and my children in my life. Words cannot express how much I hurt.”

The Amarillo Police Department's Homicide Unit is investigating the incident.
