In the second presidential debate, Vice President Kamala Harris will claim to have capped prescription drug prices so that she can say she has taken on big pharmaceutical companies. As expected, ahead of the debate, Vice President Harris released a new policy list on her campaign website. She claims that “Just like when I was Vice President, I will take on big pharmaceutical companies to lower drug prices.”
But what she doesn't say is that her policies, and the vote that comes with them, are hurting seniors' wallets.
Vice President Kamala Harris has cast the decisive vote to make seniors' Medicare Part D premiums skyrocket faster than a SpaceX rocket. The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) might as well be renamed the “Medicare Premium Inflation Act.” The IRA or IMPA would raise seniors' Medicare Part D premiums by more than 20 percent this year and by more than 50 percent next year. It could go even higher, some say as much as double.
And to hide insurance premium increases for seniors just before the election, the Biden-Harris Administration is using billions of dollars of taxpayer money from the Medicare Trust Fund to bail out Part D insurers.
But wait, there's more. This law doesn't just tweak some numbers. It creates a new $3 billion bureaucracy that's visible from space. This isn't just about raising premiums, it's about government bureaucrats playing doctor and deciding which drugs your insurance will cover for your condition.
And if you thought that was the limit of this legislative failure, think again. They diverted $300 billion from Medicare, not for your grandparents' heart care, but for EV subsidies and illegal immigrant health care. I bet Kamala Harris believes that electric vehicles and the health of illegal immigrants are more important than the health of your grandparents.
Harris may claim she's fighting for you, but what about her policies? It's fighting for seniors' bank accounts. Trump has a plan to make health care great again, for all American seniors, not just the elite.
Trump would dismantle the vast health care bureaucracy that the current administration has built, and get rid of the government bureaucrats that Kamala Harris has put in charge of deciding what kind of health care Americans can get.
He will implement the Trump Rebate Rule, which will cut out the middleman and ensure that all price discounts negotiated between drug companies and insurance companies are applied only to patients and seniors. In simple terms, that means drug discounts go to you, not to insurance company executive bonuses or Chinese-made electric cars.
As we prepare for tonight's debate, remember, it's not just about who can yell and fan the flames about drug prices, who wants to bring back health care so grandma and grandpa don't have to take out another reverse mortgage, it's about who's going to support you when it comes to paying for your health care and make American health care great again.
