Auburn quarterback Peyton Thorne's Venmo is exploding in popularity, and it's not his teammates who are paying his fantasy football league dues.
Instead, Sloan Appeared in “The Next Round”“We frequently receive requests for money from bettors who lose on Auburn University.”
“Obviously, some people will say don't listen and stuff like that, but in today's world, it's not easy to say because the criticism comes from all angles,” Thorn said of the criticism after the game. “I do get it verbally, but that's probably the least. I hear it every now and then just walking down the street. And then of course on social media. They'll attack me with Venmo's and things like that.”
The senior quarterback had a memorable performance over the weekend against Cal State, throwing four interceptions.
He completed just 14 of 27 passes for 165 yards and one touchdown, plus a turnover, as Auburn fell to 1-1 in a 20-14 loss.
Thorne pointed out that fans don't send him money after Auburn games to pad his coffers.
“No, they never send me cash,” Thorne said. “It's funny, because when they lose money, they try to get their money back, but when they win money on a parlay, no one sends me money.”
Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze still plans to have Thorn as the starting quarterback for now.
“It's really tough not to use one of our young guys, whether it's Payton or anybody else. It's really tough for me not to use one of our young guys, who are always performing at their best in practice,” Freese told reporters on Monday.

“That being said, we have to bring it to the game, we have to,” Freeze continued. “If that continues, we have to go in a different direction.”
Thorne completed 56.3 percent of his passes for 487 yards and five touchdowns and will look to lead Auburn to another victory Saturday at home against New Mexico State.
